So the rest of my time in Seattle was awesome. We took the car to see Kurt Cobain’s memorial, which is a bench outside his old residence dedicated just to him. It’s quite freaky how long it’s been now since he committed suicide, I remember reading the articles when he actually did it. I remember Tim, Dom and I listening to Nevermind for the first time, and it bringing a whole new aspect to music to us. We were that young at the time, but I remember listening to it on tape. Time flies I tell you now, I can’t believe I am nearly home. Feels like yesterday I was living in Sydney and climbing the Great Wall, now I am 10 days away from getting home, can’t wait. Anyhow we saw the bench and his old house, completely remodeled and guarded by security. Was a cool experience though, wanted to do it last time but without a car it was too difficult. His house is located in by Washington Boulevard by the lake that overlooks Mt Rainer, gorgeous views! So from there we went to see Bruce and Brandon Lees graves. We then returned the car and took the like of some heroin addict on the bus, god that was nasty. Seattle has a bit of a homeless problem, but it’s never been an issue for me. In that they are usually quite direct and don’t bother people on the street.
Cool thing happened today, I got an e-mail from Kayley, from Sydney and she was in Seattle too. Kayley lives in Vancouver, which was on my maybe next list since it is just up from Seattle in Canada. She was on reading break from university and so we arranged to meet up, and she offered a lift back up! Decision made, I am going ton Canada. So Vix, Nate and I went to the EMP and Science Fiction Museums which were both cool. Nate is a bit of a Sci Fi geek, and loved every second of the museum. Vix and I were more taken with playing guitars, drums and seeing Nirvanas/Pearl Jams/Jimi Hendrix’s guitars and memorabilia. Seattle has a brilliant music science, and so diverse, from Jazz, Blues, Rock, Metal, to Punk and Piano. I love the live music and the history this place holds. We also got to visit the Central Tavern, which is Seattle oldest bar, where Nirvana and Pearl Jam played back in the day. Cool Dive Bar! We also watched the NBA all-star game in the Sports Bar, Russ, Danny, Mark and I watched the World Series final two years ago. Great game, West won by a landslide, I love the NBA. Pissed off I miss the Supersonics again though, easy way to save money.
Arhhh can’t forget we went to the same fountain as well! The one I rolled down on video. Still quite cold out and my foot has been giving me serious jip recently, dammed coral, I limp around like a spastic! Anyhow we went up the Space Needle, really cold, but brilliant pictures of the city, I absolutely love it.
Seattle has a brilliant market too, called Pikes Market. When I worked for Audi, Joy my intrepid leader showed us a motivational video and it was this market. A fish store which is renowned as being really happy, they throw fish around! It’s so cool to watch. I miss you Jones!
So my time in Seattle was coming to an end, and ending it with 75c beers with Kayley and her mates was cool. Good to see her doing well, we chatted about Sydney, Katie, Liza and everything that has happened. Was cool! So it is goodbye America and hello Canada – Vancouver here I come
