So it was off to Vancouver, and god I have never had so many problems getting into a country. Maybe because it was driving over, but my god, I have never been subjected to that kind of interrogation, family names, intentions, jail time, and sexual preference etc…the list goes on. I made it though and Vancouver is just over the border, around a 3 hour drive from Seattle. It’s cold up here too. We arrived late so we watched Robin Hood Prince of Thieves and went to bed. The sofer wasn’t as comfortable as the hostel beds in the HI but I survived. We went into Van City as they call it the next day and looked around; the mountains surrounding it are so gorgeous. I wish I had more time here, Kayley invited me up-to Whistler for the weekend but I didn’t have enough time! Shame but hey you can’t have everything. We ate at a cool little market place in town and walked the length of downtown. Vancouver looks very strange compared to US cityscapes, there is hardly any brick, and most of the buildings are made out of glass. The views of the Mountains around it are intoxicating enough though.
The best thing happened that night though, some of Kayley’s friends were going to a Tenacious D concert, that’s Jack Blacks band (from School of Rock etc…). What a gig! What a highlight, it was simply brilliant, and Jack Black as always was hilarious. They started in the bands living room and electrocuted themselves by accident and ended up in hell, where they made a band with the Anti Christ, Charlie Chaplin and Colonial Sanders. Colonial Sanders was there because he killed a billion chickens and Chaplin because he was gay! Funny set, and after that they met the devil. Just got better and better! Van City nightlife is pretty good too; we watched the premiership, ate wings and drank a lot! Awesome night! The next day I got my new Tattoo in the morning, which looks perfect by the way and flew over to Toronto to see Loran my friend from Sydney.
I really was bummed I couldn’t stay in Vancouver longer as it was awesome, but I look at it as a whistle stop tour this time around and I will return to Canada and stay longer next time.
