We drove into Oregon early the next day, and headed straight up to Portland, the only notable place to stay in Oregon, but the drive was very unrealistic, my scars from Fiji had started to become quiet painful I the last few days so Nate drove for a while. I have been putting Iodine on them to keep them clean, but since someone stole my shoes in Fiji I have been wearing my flip flops Alma bought me everyday. It’s quite cold up here, and flip flops are not the best idea…so I had to buy a pair in a mall we stopped in. Nate was so happy to go to a mall, its his first time in America, and he’s not enjoying it so far, mainly because Vicky has been quite ill, and the medical help they got, wasn’t very helpful!. It was the crappiest mall as well, so I have made it my quest to show him the real America in Seattle. So I took them to Dennys, oh what a move, the dirtiest, fattiest burgers in the world… wooohoo I am in America! Oh well, we did make it up to Portland, but the following day. Our hostel was really freaky, like a basement torture chamber, we had to walk through 2 bedrooms to get to ours. Oh my god the guy there looked like a serial killer, really freaky! I actually was quite afraid he would appear at my bedside wanting to fluff my pillow. Luckily that didn’t happen. We drove to the Rose Bowl to see if there was an NBA game on, but the Blaziers were in Florida and it was Allstar week coming up, so we decided to see an Ice Hocky match instead! No fights though – poor form. We then went out into Hawthorne, a trendy district of Portland, I have to say it’s not the most attractive city in the world, or the most exciting but the people are really friendly. I suppose it’s again one of those states not many foreigners visit, so they are really intrigued and happy to speak to you, which I like. These places are the true America, not New York, Florida or LA/San Fran. I have to say though, if you do visit, visit during summer, its bloody cold up here right now. Oregon hasn’t been the most interesting state I have visited, but it is really beautiful.
