My Trip
Kroombit to Airlie is a 9 hour drive!
None of us were looking forward to this one but we made it the most fun possible. Karaoke started on the bus with Luke dancing and singing, as usual! He really does bring the party to life.
Luckily we all got some sleep and all got on very well so the trip went quite quickly.
We arrived in Airlie, to be told that there really isn't a beach here...hence the name Airlie Beach...Interesting!
We also were informed that Airlie Beach is the number one hotspot for unwanted pregnancies, and STD's. Another really lovely fact for you there!
Anyhow Airlie is actually a pretty nice place, the best nightlife I have experienced in Australia. It is literally one road with the ocean to the side and a huge swimming pool (they call it a lagoon!). The weather has been really good to us with no sign of rain in the 3 weeks we have been away.
Airlie is where we get to explore the Whitsunday Islands, Whitehaven Beach and generally sit on a Yacht and party!
We were booked on the Pride of Airlie, with a lot of the group from Fraser Island, which was going to be brilliant. But we had a couple of nights before then to try out the local nightlife, which we did very successfully. Even the name of our captain was inspiring Captain Kirk! Who'd have guessed it hey?
The Pride of Airlie takes around 60 people and we stay two nights on a 5 star resort called South Molle Island. All sounded brilliant!
Day one came and the weather was gorgeous, we sat on the front of the boat as it shot through the bluest ocean I have ever seen to the Island. Islands everywhere and the reef below us, a tropical paradise.
At least 12 of the Fraser island Group are on Board too, which is wicked, cos we have already partied with them and get on really well.
South Molle Island is gorgeous, we got to stay in little bungalows, play golf and have our own personal bar!
That night was brilliant, getting acquainted with all the people sailing with us, a few games and we were well on the way. So we met two British girls, Amy and Jess who were really sweet, and a fantastic Irish couple Niamh and Brain, who I got on really well with.
As well as the whole German establishment from Fraser (Georgie and Resh), the two Lukes, Shawn, and Kel - the list goes on!
So we woke up the next day - this was the day we were all really looking forward to - Whitehaven Beach - voted the most beautiful Beach in the world!
f***ing rain! And I use the word in the strictest sense of pissed off. We were greeted by the captain saying that strong winds and choppy seas may cancel our 2 and a half hour journey! This was destined to be a horrible experience. So we set off and within minutes 30 of the 45 people on board were violently sick over the edge of the boat, including yours truly. It really was a nightmare of a journey; I did however get to know Brian very well, while over the side of the boat (he couldn't even speak for about 2 hours of it). Three and a half hours, a visit from the dolphins, three violent pukes and about an hour of eye spy later and we could see this beach. It is stunning, the whitest sand you have ever seen and completely untouched - no resort or people. Just a shame it was raining!
Didn't stop us though, the crystal blue ocean was just what I needed to wash the sick out of my face! (Sorry but its true, I was definitely not born to sail!). The ocean was gorgeous, and we swam to the beach and walked along the sandy shores. Although it was a nightmare journey, the beach even in the rain is stunning. The ocean is so crystal clear
We even saw a 5 ft turtle swimming freely around the boat, this thing was huge!
The journey back Brian and I decided to stare at the horizon the whole time to stop ourselves being ill. Brian and Niamh are great, at one point even holding hands while being sick together - sweet! Luckily the journey there was so agonizing that we all had nothing left for the journey back. We also met a crazy Irish girl called Donna who bought the atmosphere to life by putting on Christmas music, dancing and generally partying on the way back.
An early night for both Shawn and I after watching a bit of Karaoke, Jules doing his traditional Tiffany song! The Island really is stunning!
