My Trip
We stayed in Airlie for about a week after the sailing experience, chilling by the lagoon and looking for some work. Julian hooked up with the Crazy Irish girl from the Boat and they are stuck to one another like glue...She's wicked though, really a bit crazy, great to be around though. Se has nicknamed me Disco Dave - don't ask why cos I have no idea! I started hanging out with one of the other girls from the boat, Amy who is a nice northern lass, coming in at 6ft 2! There is not much to do in Airlie apart from Chill out and Drink, so Julian and I were obviously at home doing that. We also met a barmaid called Sam from South Africa who was a great laugh, supplying us with free Champagne one night, which definitely got the buzz going!
We moved accommodation top, to Magnums which was a cool little resort with a jungle theme. And we saw our first spider outside one of the huts, not as big as the huntsman's, but it still looked horrible, esp. at night!
The last night in Airlie was the best though; we were destined to have a quiet night, chilling with Donna and her Irish friends (all nuts by the way!). But it was not to be 3 of the girls entered a wet t-shirt comp for $500 dollars and as I went back to the room to change, two new English lads had moved in, Steve and Tom - it was Steve's birthday the following day. So I convinced them to come out.
The Wet T-shirt Competition was a farce, one girl who worked there won it, and she was gorgeous. Julian did have the honour of pouring water over Donna though! I don't think I have ever seen him that happy (I think he really likes her!) We then sat and played Zimme Zimme outside in the bar attracting random people still drinking.
Another girl called Amanda who was in the competition also joined us; she's a bit crazy too, and from Watford! It ended up with us being evicted from the bar at closing, and heading to a club where we got Tom and Steve annihilated, saw barmaid Sam and had a wicked night until around 5am and having to leave at 7am....arghhhhh!
Julian was a bit sad to leave Donna but we will hook up with her again in Sydney.
We made it to the bus (just!), said our goodbyes, and were greeted by our Driver Laurence who is brilliant.
