A beautiful day in Italy as the rains have gone away. Got up early and took the regional bus down the dramatic Amalfi Coast. What a drive! A little like the central California coast but steeper cliffs. The bus lets you off on the top of Positano and then you walk down the steady, steep street all the way to the main part of town. This might be the most scenic cliffside town I have ever seen. Back at the hotel computer so can't post a pic right now but it was hard to take a bad picture here. LOTS of money comes to visit this place. Spent about three hours there then hopped on a ferry across the bay to the Isle of Capri. Even MORE money in this place. Unbelievably beautiful scenary in both cities. You take a furnicular (basically a cable train up this steep hill to get to the main part of town. Wonderful views across the bay and all along the coast. The ferry system all around this area really comes in handy. Spent another 3 hours in Capri, hopped on another ferry back to Sorrento, jumped on the regional train from Sorrento to Naples, went to the main station in Naples and bought a ticket on their national train line from Naples to Rome. I think I counted five modes of transportation today. Anyway, last night before my formal tour starts tomorrow. Just had a pizza and beer (beer is insanely cheap here....especially Naples. You can cans of Peroni for one Euro at somes places). Off to bed. Until next time.
