Had another wonderful day trekking around Lake Como yesterday. The humidity dropped and the skies were perfectly clear. Got up early and hopped on a ferry to Varenna, where I hiked up to Castle Vezio above the city. Seriously steep hike, similar to the ones in the Columbia River Gorge in Oregon. After that, I continued north on a trail that took me thru all these amazing little villages up in the hills toward Bellano, which you see in this picture of their waterfront. On one if the crossroads thru this one small village (Perledo), I came across this elegantly dressed elderly couple headed to church (had to be close to 90) who I asked for directions. They didn't know a drop of English, I knew just a couple phrases regarding directions but we somehow figured out what we were saying to each other (thank goodness Italians like to speak with their hands too)! Ended the day with a great smoked Swordfish dinner back in Bellagio. Off to start a new day!
