Day 76- 22 September
ND-
Today's weather has made us realise again just how incredibly lucky we have been for the last 70 odd days!
.
It poured with rain during the night not that it bothered anyone in fact it was quite soothing and helped to drown out some of the snoring.
.
A bakery van came through the park and we bought some beautiful fresh rolls and yummy looking cheesecakes. Great idea Barbara's Bakery.
.
We abandoned our idea of a two hour nature walk to the Kalbarri National Park and Natures Windows. It was literally blowing a gale. While JD got coffee I tried to get out of the van to take some photos of the beach and the little tin dish dingys that Tim had suggested we hire and cruise up the river but I actually couldn't open the door against the wind!
.
We called into Red bluff, pretty spectacular scenery but a bit blustery.
.
Beautiful displays of WA's wild flowers.
.
Rugged coastline, imposing cliffs, ferocious Indian Ocean.
.
The girls were seeing what angle they could maintain leaning their body against the wind force.
.
JD did a wee and gust of wind blew around him forcing a shower of wee straight up into the air and subsequently all over him! Some of us thought that was hilarious, others not so much!
.
Stopped at Red Bluff Beach, (towering 100 meters over the ocean), Grandstand and Shellhouse before the rains started and we hit the road.
.
Amazing how quickly the scenery changed south of Kalbarri. With the rain, wind and greenery it feels a lot like home.
.
Drove past another very impressive pink lake. Once again no option to stop for photos so you'll just have to take my word for it.
.
We got supplies in Geraldton before driving to the waterfront for some lunch. I said to JD...."I'll make lunch, You go for a walk and take the kids, I don't like the wind!"
He replied "No, I don't like the Kids!"
Which would have been funnier if he hadn't left them all inside with me trying to get out of the wind. You know what they say about wind/kids/...Try throwing a camper into the mix!
.
Lunch or tiger rolls and mini cheesecakes and then back on the road.
It was both hands on the wheel for our Indian Ocean Drive south to Cervantes.
.
Norfolk pines line the drive into Cervantes. The camp ground was apparently full but they fitted us in, unfortunately someone got to our site first and pitched their tent on it. They did return and offer to move but we figured that with the weather we wouldn't be out of the van and said they'd be fine. Funnily enough they moved in the wee early hours of the morning, I wonder if it had anything to do with JD snoring?
.
The girls disappeared to the games room while we set up and got dinner ready. Then it was a similar story to most other nights in the van except for the addition of rain and wind.
