Love it here in Passau. Our last stop in Germany. Our guide who was French told us that Hitler fell in the river here as a young child and someone saved him. Pity.
The old town is beautiful. They have a problem with flooding as they are on a peninsula with 3 rivers. The Danube, the Inn and the Iltz. A lot of the buildings have had to have all the plaster removed and replaced to second floor height as the water came up to that level in June 2013. The guide told us that they do not live at ground level. Really only at the second floor level. As he said the Bavarians may be crazy but they are not stupid. It means that they have all been renovated and look lovely. Beautiful place. At 12.00 they have an organ recital which George went to. I went to the town for a walk around and bought some apple rings dipped in chocolate.
Got back to the boat and went for a spa. Bliss.
We have now sailed a few yards down the Danube and are now in Austria. We had to go under a low bridge. George was on deck at the time and said they were first told to sit down, then to take their hats off and finally to slide down in their seats! He took some photos so I will get him to airdrop them so that I can put them on here.
