Flamin' Gallah!
The Pommies (Dom, Rob, Martin, Becky) arrived when I was in Coolungatta. The boys are from Tring School, Becky is Dom's lady. On Xmas Eve I and my new lady (Amanda......!) each took a car full of pomms along the Great Ocean Road (Anglesea to Warrnambool). Twisty and turny, like a slow rally car race with the most stunning ocean views. Stopping at Lorne beach for french/beach cricket, body surfing, soccer and sunburning, perfect! After local fish & chips (Red Emperor, delish), we continued for a further 200km to the 12 Apostles (pictured). Stunning natural rock formations of which only 9 survive. Quite touristy, and the immence fly attack made for some entertaining pommy flapping! Nevertheless, magical! Then a long drive back to Warrendite for Xmas Day. What a day! Heat, sun, beer lots and lots of deliciously prepared food. Sushi and pink champagne, peach stuffed turkey, roast beef, salad after salad.... it didn't end. Sat with people I didn't know, but they were luvly. Found myself making a toast to the ladies who'd worked so hard for the dinner, they both fell in love with me! Then it was drinking and bombing in the pool. Vaguely remember the evening, pretty similar to the rest of the day, marvelous! Then it was Boxing Day and the national traditional Test Match at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. It was Steve Waugh's (Cricketing GENIUS) last Boxing Day Test. India batted, we sat, caught the sun, drank and soaked up the atmos. The Indian Uber-Batsman, Tendulkar went for his 3rd Duck! Steve Waugh brought himself onto bowl (desperate) and was knocked for 6 by Sehwag on the 1st bowl..... Sehwag was 7 when Waugh had his test debut in 1985 at the MCG! The banta between the Indian & Aussie supporters was colourful, good natured and hilarious. Any miscreants were removed by the cops to chants of "You're goin' home in the back of a Divvy Van!" (Divisional Police Van) Very funny! What a match, wot a conclusion to a fantastic xmas........ cept we went back on Sunday to watch Steve Waugh Bat! But that's another story!
