Flamin' Gallah!
Flown out to Kingscliff, Queensland to stay in luxury appartment all to myself for a week. Every day, coffee by the beach at 7am. Then drive SW to Murwillumbah, NSW, to Dungy Creek, overlooked by Mt Warning. Here, in the sub-tropical rainforest, they've got a TV studio 30ft up a gum tree! From there 80ft suspension bridges take you between the trees (60ft up) to the creek where the camp is set up. It was our job to rig lights in the camp (others did the studio, walkways). 80% humidity, 35degs C and torrential rain made for a sweaty week. It was quite an experience to be up a ladder with a tree clamp and a weather-proof light, as the ladder slowly slid into the creek due to the HEAVY-METAL-RAIN! Catering in the middle of nowhere was surprisingly good, 10/10. Fish, risottos, shepards pie, salads, fruit salads, cake, ice cream and my new fave, watermelon juice with ginger! At nite it was time to shower and start drinking. The highlite was thursday. We hired a stretch limo between 6 of us and went to Surfers Paradise, QLD, to a dinner theatre show. Bawdy as hell, with the waitresses in skimpy space-flight attendants outfits, all with incredibly high pitched voices, being paid to be pretty and dizzy! Heaven!
I regularly pinch myself as a reminder that i'm in an australian jungle, being paid to climb trees! The medic on site has specimens of snakes and spiders, all caught in the camp where I work! Funnel-web spiders the size of a fist! If bitten, one gets a helicopter ride to hospital for FREE! I didn't see any leathal ones, but plenty of Hunstman spiders (10cm diameter) which eat Red-Backs, which is good as Red-Backs are bad!
Certainly a life experience. Due to start shooting 2nd week in Jan (for 6weeks), so keep an eye out!
Quick note to those leaving messages for me, thank you all, but could the language be tamer as I have young nieces and grandparents reading the site. Cheers.
Missing you, when I not having the time of my life!
