The beautiful Koh Lipe, what a total dream come true, we finally found that paradise island we had been longing for. The island is teeny weeny and you can walk around it in less than an hour. There are 3 main beaches, the biggest being the main and busiest one but is were a lot of boats anchor up and is used as a port so there are people coming and going all day long, although there is no port or jetty anywhere on this island, they have a floating jetty that you can only reach by longtail boat and from there you get on or off your ferry. There other two beaches are sunset, which is very small with only three sets of accommodation and is a good 20 minute walk from the main area and then sunrise beach which is where we stayed for 4 days and we think was by far the most beautiful of the three beaches, soft white sand and terquoise clear water with just a few long tail boats bobbing around, its quite long but on a bend so it never felt big or crowded. Our accommodation was a set of really pretty bungalows right by the beach, it had a bucket flush and just one fan pushing around hot air but we didnt care too much because the location made up for it all.
On the day we arrived we had been travelling since 9am and didnt arrive until after 4, once we had unpacked I decided it would be a great idea to walk around the whole island...an idea Damian didnt entirely love after a whole day travelling in 30' heat! We got to see all the beaches though and then come to the conclusion that we were in the best place and didnt need to bother going to the other beaches during our stay.
There is nothing really to do other than relax on the beach, unless you wanted to do a dive trip but we are saving that for our last two weeks in thailand. We spent 3 wonderful days relaxing on the gorgeous beach and swimming in the warm crystal clear water, bliss! There may have also been a few games of bat and ball, we try not to play too much incase we put other people off playing just beacuse we are such pros!! hehe our top rally count is over 60 so yeh like I said pros!! We hired out some snorkles and went to find some fishes, we found a few nemos and some other really lovely colourful fish, there isnt as much coral as we have heard there is in Koh Tao which is famous for its underwater world and is were we are spending the last two weeks so we are looking forward to that.
The beach we were staying on was just a 2 min walk from what they call 'walking street' which is a street that connects our side of the island to the main beach, along it is where you find all the retaurants, bars, shops and pretty much everything else. We sampled some delicious food again in a few places but our favourite find was the bubble tea cart, bubble tea mmmmmm those bubbles! so basically its flavoured milky tea, but it doesnt taste too much like tea, we liked the coco one, they put in what they call bubbles, we couldnt work out what a translation would be but they were small, black, sweet, jelly like balls and you drank the drink with a big fat straw so you could suck up some bubbles too...sounds really weird but trust me it was really good.
We have loved our small stay on Lipe and just wish we had found it sooner, it has been the perfect beach stay, we are just keeping our fingers and toes crossed that when we return to thialand after the whirlwind whizz around malaysia that we find another idylic place to relax and soak up the last few days of our amazing trip.
21 days left :( sad face :) happy face x x x
