We reached Don Det on a boat, it only took an hour from Don Khong. First impressions were it was extreemly clostraphobic and not what we had hoped it would be. Its known as party island but there is no party going on here, there is a curfew of 11pm so all the bars shut down and the most action you will find is people smoking weed in thier hammoks. We are now in Si Phan Don, also known as 4000 islands. It is a number of islands...i guess maybe 4000? which are surrounded buy the Mekong river. There are 3 main habitable Islands, we are at the largest called Don Khong. Although its the largest it is the quietest, made up of just a small number of villages, one being where all the guest houses and restraunts are. It is totally stunning here, even though the river is still a chocolate brown colour its beauti...

We arrived in Pakse at 7am after our oh so wonderful disco night bus :) check out in all guest houses and hostels is normally around 10ish so we had a few hours sat in a cafe drinking the thick sweet lao coffee. Well what to say about Vientiane....not much, its busy, hot and smelly, very much like a mini Bangkok but with zero to see or do, there is really no character or charm about this place and the main reason for people visiting from what i gather is just as a stop off before either catching an onward flight or bus. We searched for a good hour for somewhere to stay and ended up paying over our budget and even then we dont have a palace, all the rooms we looked...

Our bus from Luang Prabang down to Vang Vien took a monster 7 hours, but it actually went quite quick, we stopped every 2 hours for a toilet stop and watched a film on the laptop so it was ok, and i didnt feel sick....i have no idea how i am coping without being really sick but im doing ok so far!
