Well what to say about Phi Phi, I can imagine years ago before the buckets of alcohol and thousands of young alcohol fulled backpackers invaded, this would have been a perfectly idilic paradise island and it is sad to think how much it has been taken over but i suppose where there is the want and need for money then anywhere is going to accept it, even if that means turning such a stunning place into a tightly packed party island.
There are a few very high end resorts on the island that are far away from the main hustle and bustle but other than that phi phi is made up of very tightly packed walkways full of bars, restaurants, hostels and over priced shops. Everything on this Island is at least 25% more than most other places, if people want to stay they have to pay the prices.
The main beach is beautiful, giant karsts stand either side of the bay and dozens of pretty long tail boats bob about, during the day though the tide goes out really far and your left with soggy sand and stranded boats, its a shame because the beach looses its sparkle when the bright blue water dissapears.
We knew we didnt need to spend more than a night here, buckets of alcohol and raves until the early hours isnt really our thing...but we were really glad we stayed the one night if just for the amazing fire shows! I have never seen anything like it, every bar on the beach had their own nightly show and they were all just totaly insane, mainly down to the fact that there were no health and safety regs in sight so you had people jumping through rings of fire, jumping over a giant skipping rope set on fire and having huge balloons of fire being pumped right next to you, we could actually feel the spray of the parrafin on our faces, like I said insane!
On the day we left we spent the morning climbing up some very steep steps that seemed to go on for a veeery long time, it was toally worth it though just for the view! we knew we had to go up there because the view of the island is a very famous one that is seen on loads of postcards and posters so it was pretty cool to get our own money shot to add to the collection of money shots, along with Angor Wat, the Grand Palace and HaLong Bay!
Oh and I have another ailment to add to the many I have sustained during this trip, I have a very poorly eye :( its bright red and swollen, I think its a contact lense thing so I am now having to wear my specs which I am not at all happy about, its bad enough being called 'red one eye' by my loving boyfriend but I also have to have my geeky four eyes to go along with it! Contemplated making a patch but thats just one step too far!
So we are in Koh Lanta now, we arrived yesterday and its lovely, very peaceful and pretty, we are planning on being here for the next 4 or 5 days so it will finally go quiet from me on the blog front, for 5 days anyway!
its officially 1 month until we come home :( mixed feelings
