Danny's Summer '06 Study Abroad
This morning we went into Rome for the first time. Getting there was interesting, trying to figure out the bus system and get everyone on the same one. Our professor gave us a mini tour of some of the ancient Roman ruins passing by the Monumento a Vittorio Emanuele II, Colonna Tralana (the oldest of these tall, cylindrical monuments), the Mercati Tainei (old market), Romano (place where they hung out), Arc of Tito. It was interesting seeing these random columns w/ nothing surrounding them out in the Forum, but I wish I had a picture of what they looked like during the empire. After the tour a group of us went to the Colosseum, Arc of Constantine, I ran around the Circo Massimo, we saw the remains of the Teatro Marcello, then we ate dinner around the Trevi Fountain and saw it lit up at night. After that we headed back to the hotel on the bus, getting a little lost on the way and ending up on a stop next to some hookers on the highway.
