San Sebastián, home sweet home.
Can't believe I get the privilege to call another city in Europe home. I've loved Spain since the moment I stepped into this amazing country and now I get to spend a good two months becoming a local.
I am working in a little apartment hostel in the old town of San Sebastián which is in north Spain on the coast. Work is a bit more intense than the few hours of "work" I'd do in Rimini during summer. Here I am in complete control, I organise the bookings and check ins, I clean, interact with guests, handle money and pretty much keep the hostel running. I get free accommodation, my very own room in fact with a double bed and place to put my things. Mum and dad would be happy to know I keep my bed made and my room spotless. Not having your own space for seven months really makes you appreciate it. It's amazing to have my own bed, the little things I appreciate so much more.
San Sebastián is a cool little surfy town, it's slow and lazy. It's siesta time at the moment so the streets are empty and the shops are all closed! I love it! The weather is wet and rainy, it rains 200 days of the year here!! Bit crazy, I've seen a few rainy days but I work a lot so it makes me feel better about being inside. And also take full advantage of the nice days. I've gone hiking and walking everyday! Yesterday I took a big group of guests on a hike along the coast line it was so great, we took a wrong turn and ended up rock climbing and scaling ledges! We got some amazing views and had a picnic lunch on top of this tall skinny rock. We had to climb to the top and it just fit the group of us balancing on top. The view was amazing! It was such a great day.
Guests quickly become friends and I spend my nights walking with them trying different tapas and drinking the very unique San Sebastián cider on the steps of the near by church. We buy ice cream and sit on the port watching the water and the sun set. I pretty much am living the life... I've been here a week in total, it's going to be a much healthier stay than what I experienced in Rimini. Here I plan to have an active lifestyle, eat well and work off all the love that Europe has left around my waist line! Good thing it's winter and I can hide it under some baggy woollies!
Can't wait to see what the rest of my San Sebastián life will bring!
