Finally made it to Berlin. This has been the last planned stop of 'travel' for a while. I have been working towards Berlin as a final destination and an end to busabout. So now that I've come and gone from the amazingly unique city with a whole lot of personality it feels quite strange.
I had heard a lot about Berlin and everyone I met seemed to agree that this was one of the best cities in Europe. I wastold I'd fit right in and love it here, after spending a few days soaking up the local side of Berlin I'm quite flattered. Berlin is edgy, cultured, indie, and so much more on so many levels. There are countless bands, djs, artists, designers, museums, galleries, cafes and restaurants to keep you entertained not to mention the intense nightlife Berlin has to offer!
I arrived with busabout at 6pm on a Saturday night! It was strange hopping off for the last time, that bus has become like home and I surprisingly enjoyed the bus trips; even the 14 hour ones! I found my group of friends that had been in Berlin a few days and we located a hostel for me to stay in. Hostels are busy on a Saturday night in Berlin, so not pre booking may have been a bit silly (don't tell mum). We found me a bed, cooked an amazing group dinner, got ready to go out in a very grunge/ trash bag/ Berlin way and headed to the busabout hostel bar to create a plan of attack. The group grew and soon we had about 15 plus walking to the train station to see for ourselves what all this Berlin nightlife buzz was all about!
I had the most amazing time! Dancing, meeting locals, exploring the club district, more dancing... Before I knew it, it was 10am and time to head home. Turns out I didn't need to find that hostel in the end! I could have stayed out for longer I was having such a great time with such a great group of people! But we all taxied home and I managed to sneak two hours of sleep in my hostel before I needed to head out and meet a friend I'd met working in Rimini. His name is jack, he is an Aussie and is living in Berlin for the year.
It took me a while and a few hungover mistakes but I made it to his little apartment on the outskirts of Berlin.
I had such a great time with jack he was a great host and showed me what it's like to be a local. We hired movies the first night and got take away, we went to markets, and parks, out for lunches of soup in little cosy cafes on lakes and in gardens, had coffee down back streets in alternate cafes, checked out the famous street art, went to local indie bars, and chilled out walking the streets! I loved it and could easily see myself living here.
To say thank you I bought a whole lot of fresh produce from the markets and we had grilled veggies with seared chicken, figs and goats cheese! He was pretty impressed and I loved the chance to get creative in the kitchen again!
I'm now heading to San Sebastián where I have some work lined up for two months in a little surf hostel! I'm so excited to be settled and have a place to call home for a while! Hopefully ill make a good group of friends, I helped a girl I met in Switzerland get a job in San seb so ill be meeting her there! We plan to get healthy and adventurous! Then around December we both move back to the UK!
Things are moving so fast! I'm missing my family a lot and have been longing to be able to give them a hug. But I'm sure when I settle down ill feel less far from home! I'm also looking forward to getting back to the UK. I have my family there and have so many new friends whom I'm really looking forward to seeing again! It almost feels like getting back to London is like going home! I'm sure it will make me feel refreshed and get me ready for another few months or even year of travel! Who knows, the world really opens up for you when you let it!

Mum You might move to another part of the world for the love of a good man Cyd! You might raise a beautiful family in a world so far removed from the place you used to call home... but home will always be in your heart...it's always in mine XX Live, laugh and love with all your heart, things work out, they always do... we miss you at this side of the planet X
