My Croatian adventure has been amazing. I was in need of the coast, the ocean and a long swim. And beautiful Croatia was perfect, the coast line is amazing.
I had to employ some intense friend making at the ferry exit so I'd have someone to explore split with. Two American girls were in front of me and we got talking, next thing we were having breakfast together and planning to meet up for lunch. Unfortunately we were staying in hostels on opposite sides of Split. It wasn't far though and we soon became inseperable. There was a great market near my hostel so we spent a day walking around there and the beach was near the girls hostel so we spent many days lazing around and eating amazing food on the water front! We took ferries to near by islands for day trips. It was a great few days.
We heard that Hvar an island two hours away was worth the trip and set out to find a way to fit it into our visit. Because we had already payed for accommodation on the mainland we planned to head to Hvar and wing it. We borrowed a tent off a very friendly hostel owner, bought a bottle of vodka and got ready to a big night.
Hvar is amazing it has a beach bar which is like something out of a holiday magazine. The three of us sat and drank and before we knew it we were pretty tipsy running around the island, swimming and jumping off what ever we could find into the turquoise water. We had met some Aussie boys in Split who were doing a croatian sailing trip, they were on Hvar for the night too so we combined our group and ended up having a really fun crew to run a muck with.
The night becomes a bit of a blur but it's one of the best of my life, I end up eating a bar mans dinner and having free shots, then joining a croatian family dinner, then eating cake with some old women who can't speak English, then drinking champagne on a luxury yaught, then sneaking on too other yaught a and partying with different groups of people. It was amazing!
In the morning I woke up to a chugging noise.... When I come to I realize we are on a moving yaught sailing away from Hvar. I freak out and then thankfully realize that Krista, one of my new American friend, was on board with me! Jackie however isn't, she has found a hostel to sleep in on Hvar and has no idea the adventure Krista and I are about to undertake.
We finally get the courage to go upstairs and face the captain. It turns out we are on the Aussie boys sailing yaught and we are heading south to Dubrovnik. We are allowed to stay and end up sailing down the coast of Croatia for three days. It's absolutely stunning. We stop for swims off the boat, drink cocktails and eat good food. I have no money, clothes or passport!! Which may cause a problem...
When we finally reach Dubrovnik I have to find the police station and get documents because we have to pass through the Bosnia boarders in order to get back to Split, to Jackie and to our things.
Everything goes surprising smoothly and we are soon on a five hour bus trip back to Split. The bus ride alone was amazing. It was a great way to see Croatia and a different perspective of the coastline, it was an unforgettable end to and unforgettable experience!
I love you Croatia and I love my new friends who shared an adventure with me that you could plan or pay for!
The end of our croatia trip involved spending the day at an incredible roof top bar overlooking the sea, eating good food and having a lot of free shots. The overnight ferry ride home was a lot more enjoyable when your tired from a big adventure and a lot of sun.
