Crew Frivolous
Day 2, leaving Grandma’s house, destination Port Augusta. After a hearty breakfast of bacon and eggs we headed west towards Renmark. A detour was necessary across the Murray just to say we have been in three states in one day (it didn’t take us twelve hours). A stop at the Overland Corner Hotel was needed as we were tired and thirsty from driving for the last three hours. This is a beautiful old pub seemingly in the middle of nowhere, with the Murray as a backdrop. Lunch was packed for us, grandma’s spicy veggie soup.
Port Augusta here we come. Joe wanted to check out the magnetic hill on the way so a small detour was needed. After a little bit of fluffing around, to get our vehicle facing the right direction, turned the engines off and from a stationary start, rolled what appears to be up hill (not convinced). The sun was setting and there was still one hundred kilometres to go, so we stopped at a roadside camp out of Orroroo. This was extremely cold, we needed a fire but it was too dark to find wood. We swigged on port in a feeble attempt to stay warm, this didn’t really work but
it made us go to sleep a lot easier.
Day 3, got to Port Augusta for a good cup of coffee, destination Coober Pedy. Lunch stop was at Spud’s Roadhouse at the turn off to Woomera. This was just a day of driving with an occasional stop to water the horse and some happy snaps. This time we made it to our destination.
