Crew Frivolous
We saw the town in the distance. The horizon looked like an expanse of ant hills and there appeared to be a fire there. On closer inspection the fire turned out to be a working mine with dust streaming from the machinery. As we drove into town we could see what appeared to be underground houses strewn with junk and relics from the past. The main street was however, filled with modern shops.
We made our way to the Oasis caravan park and booked in for a couple of days.
We started the next morning off with a tour booked through the caravan park. Rudi was our tour-guide and he was a retired miner. At the age of 80 years he was an excellent guide and bus driver. We saw all the sights the town had to offer, from the 18 hole golf course to the speedway track. There were plenty of old wrecked cars which Joe paid a lot of attention to. We even stopped off at a mullock heap so we could do some noodling. Noodling is a term used for when you go through the piles of rubble looking for opal.
After returning to camp and having lunch we decided to have a walk up the main street to get a few groceries. Well, we also had to visit one of the underground bars didn't we? After a couple of coldies we went back to camp with our groceries. We also did our own tour of the town and Joe headed back to where he had eyed off an old ute in a paddock of old cars. To his disappointment there wasn’t much left on the old girl to salvage.
We returned back to the camp and went via the bottle shop as we knew the prices we going to increase the further we went.
