To combine travel with sightseeing we took the ferry from Hellesylt to Geiranger along the fjord. Bit like a cross between a cruise and a ferry trip. Awesome scenery as ever, passed the seven sisters waterfalls (could only count five) and several abandoned farms in the hills (where they tied the kids to ropes so they didn’t fall off the farm, surprised they moved out?)
From Geiranger Connie hauled us up the Eagle Road, 11 hairpin bends up 620m to the plateau and then back down to Eidsal for a local ferry to cross the fjord again to Linge. Then a long haul up and a fast down the infamous Trolls Road, another 11 hairpin bends. Fortunately Craig was driving as Vanda had her eyes shut! We were glad we only had a 6m van to squeeze past the on-coming traffic on the narrow, windy mountain road & then we met coaches & huge motor homes, who seemed to have no concerns!
Next day we took the world famous, listed as top ten journey, trip along the Atlantic road from Bud to Kristiansund. It was very much an anti climax. Nice coastal drive with a well engineered bridge but not the best drive ever.
Then onto Trondheim where we camped on a car park right near the city centre. Well set up for campervans, big parking spaces, electric hook up, pay at the meter. Trondheim is a great city with its original colourful wooden warehouses on the fjord, now apartments but still standing on the original wooden piles driven into the shore. A university town with a lovely cathedral and a student buzz. We treated ourselves to our second meal out in Norway, chicken burger with chips, veggie burger and two halves of cider......I can’t bear to repeat what it cost, but it was nice to be in a restaurant on the city harbour & enjoy the evening sun.
