From Fjell to Fjord
Today we traveled along the roof of Norway as we experience snow capped peaks, glaciers, emerald lakes, blue ice and the most spectacular scenery we've had yet.
We stopped first in the city of Lom where we saw another Stave Church, visited a hand crafted store, an open air museum and walked along a wooden bridge to enjoy the scenery.
Next we stopped at a Dutch couples inn for some good homemade soup, view of a waterfall, and delightful visit with the owner. He had the carriage from Norway's first queen in the inn.
Our trip keeps getting better and better. The sun is shining, the view unlimited , you couldn't have ordered a better day. Going up to the summit of Mt. Dalsnibba was not only brilliant, but the 20 hair pin turns on the Geiranger Mountain Road with snow banks on each side as the road that was only opened a week ago was a little scary. More than once I had to close my eyes while Keith laughed at my reserve. By the way gas has jumped up NOK5 to 14.99NOK.
We then descended the mountain along the same harrowing road only it was even scarier when I saw the front of the coach overhanging as we made the turns. I moved further to the back of the coach. Our beautiful descent was highlighted with magnificent views of Geirangerfjord which is ten miles long and 960 feet deep. Upon arriving at our hotel, we were given a scenic room with view of the fjord, wonderful. The Union Hotel is beautiful, gracious, and food the best so far, although since all our meals have been delicious there are no food complaints on this trip.
Helena told us all about Trolls today. Trolls are everywhere , tricky, mischievous, and shy. They even have a tiny troll called the tooth troll that lives in the cavities of the teeth so convincing children to brush their teeth to get rid of them is pretty easy.
