Today is our first official day in Norway. Leaving the ferry we boarded a coach bound for ski country. We all noted that the scenery seemed so pristine and all the rural building clean and painted, like an advertisement. The spring thaw has created many scenic waterfalls. We stopped in Lillehammer which hosted the 1994 Olympics. First we visited Maihaugen. This open air folk museum has over 200 original buildings to trace Norway's every day life from the Middle Ages to modern times. All of the roofs in the oldest section were covered with grass and the Stave church's construction was very interesting. Next we drove up to the Olympic Park where the ski jumping competition was held. I climbed up the stairs where one stood to light the Olympic Torch. It was very high and a little scary. We ended our day in the village of Gaala and our ski lodge hotel, the Wadahl Hotel. Beautiful mountain scenery!!!!!! After dinner we went for an invigorating walk, saw moose tracks, and played in the snow. Interesting how we go to AZ to get away from snow and then travel to Norway to see it.
