After a good nights driving and a few hours kip we had a look around Noosa head grabbed some lunch Etc, and hit the road again this time we was heading up to Hervey bay to see the Migrating Whales (Humpback) this country's not like england to drive its massive so we chipped away at the distance till finally we hit Hervey bay by this time it was getting dark so we had a drive around the town grabbed some food and then parked up in the boat clubs car park and pop'd into the Hervey bay marina club for a few beers.
Hervey bay is the main point of access to Fraser island unfortunately we did not have enough time to do this, but we did decided to do a half day whale watching tour so we was up early after a quick shower we walked to the marina and headed to our boat the whalesong it was a catamaran.
The journey started on time and we headed out to sea about an hour and a half later the captain said he had received information on the whales so eventually they was sighted just of the port side so we slowed up and followed them the boat was slowly moving closer to them and eventually with a lot of shouting and waving of all the people on board the whales surfaced right next to the boat, it was fantastic to see this beautiful creature so close up they would breach the water they would roll over so you could see there belly's and then the tail flip was just fantastic.
The Humpback whale is the 5th biggest animal on the planet and can reach up to 15 metres in length with a weight of up to 45,000kg. But they are the most agile of the whale family all i can say is that it was one of the most wonderful things i have seen and done so far on my travels
After heading back to the harbor we grabbed a bite to each and hit the road again this time our destination was Rockhamptom this was around another 400k drive so of we set.
The journey up took us through some lovely country sites on the way up the day was getting on but finally we was there Rockhamptomis the beef capital of Australia so i guess there was only one way of finding out was to sample one.
The lonely planet recommend the Critton hotel, the menu had lots of lovely stake meals to choose from but i decided to have the Aussie special this included Croc Kangaroo and of course Stake. The meal was delicious and after a few beers we was certainally full up..
The next stage of the drive would take us up to Airlee beach (the great barrier reef)
