Outback Adventure 2019
Day 23
Lightning Ridge - Walgett - Coonamble
Today was spent exploring the town of Lightning Ridge. We drove the Yellow and Red Car door tours which take you to some of the local attractions and some of the more eccentric parts of the town. We drove past mine sites, homes that have been built out of scrap materials and bottles, weird castles and even the huge open cut pits that suddenly appear out of no where.
After lunch we returned to the artesian baths for another dip before we got on the road again for a few hours driving to get further south and closer to home.
We drove to Walgett passing the numerous sheep and goats along the sides of the road and then onto Coonamble where we fueled and decided that it was enough driving for the day. It’s cold too! With the wind chill it feels like 12 degrees at 4.30pm - that’s not like the 37 degrees we have been used to!
We have decided that tomorrow we will get underway early to make the final 560 odd kms to get home.
We should then end up with just under 9000 kms for this trip as a result.
