Day 79
Boggabilla - Moree - Narrabri - Gunnedah - Quirindi - Murrurundi
"Rain, feel it on my finger tips
Hear it on my window pane....."
Well it rained all night and it rained all day. We are really over all this rain! I asked tonight where everyone would rather be and 2 were for West Coast WA and 2 for Darwin. The sun and warmer weather for sure!
We left Boggabilla at 8am and really just drove today. The countryside was half flooded pretty much the whole way down the Newell and Kamilaroi Highways. The cotton fields are soggy and the canola is wet. Lots and lots of grain silos too in every small town we drove through.
So many smaller towns today too that have really nothing in the main street but a pub and maybe a couple of shops - a lot boarded up too. The pubs will have one of 3 names - Either the Royal Hotel or the Commercial Hotel or "Insert name of town here" Hotel!! Some towns will have 2 - but you'd be hard pressed to find the trifecta .
We drove about most of the towns today as it was too wet to get out and explore unfortunately . We had lunch at Gunnedah at a park and drove onto Quirindi.
The weather out of Gunnedah was just atrocious and the roads were not fun at all to drive on towing - especially with road trains flying past you! Huge puddles on the highway don't help either - you're either covered in water or trying hard not to aquaplane. We were glad to make Quirindi and had contemplated just stopping the night there but it was just too early and so we pressed onto Murrurundi for the night.
Only a couple of hours from home now and we should be there by lunchtime tomorrow. Sydney is expected to be fine and sunny so will be a nice homecoming if so - fingers crossed .
Our last night in the van tonight. A bit sad and although it's been 12 weeks it really dosent feel like that at all . We could easily go round again without a second thought!
We've done 21,300 k's on the GPS tonight.
The circle is almost complete.
