Day 78
Hervey Bay - Maryborough - Kingaroy - Kumbia - Dalby - Moonie - Goondawindi - Boggabilla
"When I was a little bitty baby
My mama done rock me in the cradle
In them old cotton fields back home...."
Raining one minute, sunshine the next, cloudy and windy the next, pouring with rain again.....repeat for the whole day.
Thats what today was like and we drove through all of it! The outside temperature was like a yo yo all day up and down between 16 and 23 degrees.
We left Hervey Bay at 7.30 as we knew we needed a big day on the road today. We headed inland and drove through Maryborough first with its beautiful Queenslander houses. This would have to be the quintessential Queenslander town - they are in every street and mostly all next to each other.
We continued on through Kingaroy and stopped in a great little town called Kumbia. There's not much there but you can camp for free and get power for a donation right opposite the Police Station. The Police sign was a great old one with the flashing light on the top of they were on a job! Took some great pics of the town which you could drive in a minute and forget but it was still a great spot .
From Kumbia it was on to Dalby a much bigger town and just outside the town were mass fields of cotton. Everywhere you looked were cotton fields either ready for harvest or just harvested. Massive semi trailer sized bricks of cotton all line up waiting to be put on a trailer for transporting - and there were hundreds of them too . Cotton Cotton Cotton! All over the roadside too having fallen off the trucks!
From Dalby it was onto Moonie and then to Goondawindi our last Queensland town this trip.
We crossed the old bridge across the Macintyre River and we were back in New South Wales again.
We drove on through Boggabilla where we had planned to stay but the caravan park closed 3 months ago - no worries though as we drove on down the Newell and are bush camping 30ks further South down the road. Just over 600k travel day today.
Great sunset tonight too after the yo-yo weather day. Hopefully sunshine all tomorrow as we get that much closer to home.
PS - How are you going with the song lyrics?? Pretty simple hey. If we'd been away for a full year I think I'd struggle but have had no probs with the 12 weeks. A couple left!
