Day 1
Sydney - Gunning - Gundagai - Wagga Wagga - Narrandera - Hay
"But you've gotta wake up Hay, Hej , Hey!..."
5am wake up this morning to get underway early and beat the traffic. On the road just before 6.30.
Driving Driving Driving all day today to get some k's under our belt.
Stopped at Gunning to see Marjie and Kye for breakky about 10am and a play in the park for the kids. Quite cold there- only 9 degrees!! No fuel @ Gunning ??? So had to limp into Yass to fill up.
On the way to Gundagai for lunch, the truck in front of us decided to lose a tyre - yep the whole thing! It rolled off at speed, hit his truck at the front as he slowed down, careered into the B- Double in the outside lane madly swerving to miss it, shot into the dip between roads and then across 2 lanes of the other side of the Hume Highway and smashed into the steel trace fence and basically exploded. It would have killed someone had it hit a small car travelling the other way! Corinne just watched amazed - no video sorry!! Cobes just freaked in horror!! b*****!
Gundagai for lunch was nice in the sun and then onto Wagga Wagga and Narrandera to fuel and then towards Hay.
Notable mentions:
* 116 horses from the Hume Highway to our campsite.
* 1 echidna
* Lots of freshly cut rolls of cotton on the Hay plain
* 1 bird road kill
Bush camping about 70ks from Hay on the plain. First campfire for our trip and a beautiful sunset to finish a great days drive !
Spaghetti Bol and a few beers are the order for dinner tonight. Another early start tomorrow to head towards SA.
Woo Hoo we are underway!!
