On monday we headed west to Kanchunaburi which was about a 2-3 hour bus ride, we were pretty much abandoned at a hotel which we could have stayed at but changed our minds after learning that it was about 15-20 pounds a night, so we went for a stroll to find somewhere cheaper, we didnt know where we were going and ended up walking for about half a mile and arrived at the Bridge over the River Kwai, which is what we came up here for, so we took some photos and then asked a moto taxi man where The Jolly Frog was (a guesthouse that had come highly recommended) it was about 2km away so i reluctantly hopped on the back of his motor bike (with no helmet, shorts, bare arms and flip flops) knowing that if i came off it was going to hurt! so i told him to go slow and it was alright actually! quite exciting!
The Jolly Frog is a gorgeous place, so different to Kao sann road which is noisy, busy and smelly, but out here is it so quite, calm and beautiful, our room over looks a gorgeous river and oh, its just lovely - once we were all booked in we walked back up to the Bridge and this time started to walk across it - i was s***ting myself! its a steel bridge but the bits you walk on are wooden planks that sometimes wobble and look like they could snap at anytime, and as health and saftey just isnt an issue you could quite easily fall! so what with that and people coming across the bridge in the other way meaning you have to move aside, i was petrified - so i didnt go very far!
On tuesday we went uon a trip up to the Erwan waterfalls which were beautiful, 7 different falls, and a good 1-2mile treck to see them all, once we had got to the top we came back down i went swimming in one of the falls - stupidlythough i managed to loose one of my contact lenses so i spent the rest of the eye only able to see out of one eye. After this we went to "The Death Valley Railway" and once again i was scared as you walked over fully operationalrailway bridge but it was so rickety and once again the wooden planks felt like they could have given way - that with onely one good eye was horrible so i was quite relieved when that was over! we then went over it on the train which was ok but i made sure i didnt look out of the window!
Anyway - today we are off to visit some tigers and tomorrow we head back to Bangkok for a night before heading up to Chaing Mai!
More to be reported soon xxxxx
