Day 48-50 - Rowena feedlot
We were given the opportunity to go to a different feedlot in NSW for 4 days a fortnight…basically we'd be going there to relieve the other 2 workers so they could have some days off. Our job is to make sure the cattle are fed, have water and are happy & healthy.
This was the first time we were heading down there…we got a company ute and drove the 3 hours to Rowena. We have our own little cottage down there on the property which has A/C too! Got a little surprise in the bedroom of our cottage when we walked in and found a huntsman spider had claimed it before us ...hahaha after much screaming the spider vacated with only 6 legs :-(
This trip down there we learnt how to: calculate the quantities of feed, operate the loader & tractor, distribute feed, break up hay bales, mill grain and probably a few other things but I cant remember at the moment.
We are working with a couple of other blokes from Tamworth who are fixing up the irrigation and building sheds there, so we've been lending them a hand too. Then each day after work we'd head to their's for a few beers. We only did 3 days of work at Rowena this trip but every other time it will be 4 days.
