Today was our last full day in the North Island. We had a lazy morning, watching the sun rise over the sea again. All mornings should start this way!
We checked out of our hostel in Napier and headed to the supermarche to stock up our supplies. After breakfast on the beach, we left Napier to drive to Wellington. This took 6 hours with a couple if stops. First, Masterton where we stopped in the park for lunch and a quick walk.
Next stop was Stonehenge Aotearoa, which is a replica of the British Stonehenge. We learned all about the significance of the stones and how the Maori used to interpret the sun, moon and planets. We also learned the history of the star signs and why the dates in many newspapers are incorrect. We confirmed that Claire is a Pisces and I'm a Leo!
Heading back to the highway we had to stop for a herd of cows to cross the road! Good job we weren't in a rush.
We arrived in Wellington at about 6 and luckily the Travelodge is very nice, nothing like those in the UK! Phew!
After a quick shower we headed out for dinner and a look around Wellington. It's really nice here - lots of great shops - so it's a shame we don't have time to look around properly. We had dinner in a lovely Cuban restaurant on Cuban St, delicious chilli and a glass of red wine, yum!
Now, we're back in the hotel and making the most of having a tv by watching trash. Good times!
