Woke up this morning to beautiful sunshine after a stormy cloudy evening. We had already planned to re-do some of the route from yesterday if the sun was shining to get a good view of both lakes.
First of all, checked out the YHA, packed up Lucy and headed back to the pharmacy to get sone advice on Jo's sandfly bites which now look like oozing volcanoes erupting out of her legs!! Ok, not quite that bad!! Just not too pretty. The pharmacist squinted and grimaced at the bites and sold Jo some more cream with antiseptic and anaesthetic for $16 .... total spent on bite creams and anti-histamine $50!!
Had a quick wander around the shops before heading to the Waitrose of New Zealand - New World for Danish and lunch.
Breakfast was enjoyed by the lake and we drove around to see Shania Twain's (maybe?!) house, a stunning glass fronted house with views of the lake from every room! We then retraced our route up to the top of Lake Wanaka, stopping for every photo opportunity. So different in the sunlight, and its true at the right angle you can see the silhouette of the mountains in the lake.
Lunch was enjoyed in Lake Hawea, where I studied my new birthday present - Barretts guide to New Zealand Wildlife (I know!! But it's awesome!!)
Jo had driven all morning and continued the route until Queenstown. We drove the less travelled route via Cordrova Valley Road which passed all the major ski routes and quickly turned into Cross Range road and was very high up, providing some spectacular views over Queenstown, The Remarkables mountain range and other peaks.
We swapped over at the original Shotover River Bridge where I drove the picturesque route into Te Anau.
