Begrudgingly we dragged ourselves our of bed at 6.15am to get the train to Kanchanaburi.
Dave not surprisingly got us to the train station with plenty of time to spare and we queued for our ticket. It was then at this point we were very politely told we were at the wrong train station and trains to Kanchanaburi left from the other side of the city - superb.
We were then given the option of waiting till 2pm for the next train (at the other side of Bangkok) or we could get the bus. Not wanting to spend anymore time in Bangkok we opted for the bus, jumped in a tuk tuk and showed him exactly on the map where we wanted to go too. 20 minutes later we were there - paid him the money and he shot off, not before he assured us it was the correct bus station for the buses to Kanchanaburi - we, on the other hand thought it was a little quiet.
We walked round and wondered where everyone was before flagging a parked bus and this is where we were again politely told that we were at the old bus station and it had been closed for at least a year and the new station was 10km up the road - how kind of our tuk tuk driver to take us knowingly to the wrong place.
Fortunately the bus let us jump on and took us to the new station where we were finally taken to the right place.
We met an American on the way, called Brett where we found a bungalow guesthouse by the River Kwai.
In the afternoon, the 3 of us went to Tiger Temple. It's a place where monks have set up care for ill treated tigers who have been rescued from poachers. Once there we got to go round and stroke about 6 full grown tigers which were lying in the baking sun whilst having our photo taken! It was a little surreal as they just let us touch them and sit with them...surely these are killing machines??!
We then got taken to 4 tiger cubs where we could sit and play with them for a couple of minutes. They were fighting with each other and on the odd occasion jumping on the staff - the staff were laughing whereas the cubs were obviously trying to kill them by going for their necks.
That evening we headed out for tea and beers with Brett and discussed mainly about the life of an American - from Bush to their over the top high school proms!
