Finally, the sun was out for the first time in ages!So after a proper English breakfast by a proper English cook, Claire decided that she wanted to read a proper English paper.A local Thai person she had just been talking too gave her sound advice about a supermarket only a short walk away, which sold English papers - mirror, sun etc.
We got the directions and off we went on our short walk - to the end of the road, turn left, turn right and your there!A good 30 minutes later still walking 'to the end of the road' in the now boiling hot sun we were going to give up, but no, it was worth it...without realising we passed the shop and carried on walking for about another 15 minutes, before asking for directions and having to turn around.Cannot describe the heat in this midday sun!!
Eventually we made it after a good hour on our short walk to the other side of the city.We were relieved and glad that after 2 weeks we were finally going to read up on what's been happening back home, football, celeb gossip, news and dear miriam...the only English paper available was the Bangkok post (a paper about Bangkok), what the hell are we supposed to do with the Bangkok post??!
With Dave calmly keeping his cool after leaving the ridiculously far away supermarket empty handed, we decided to go the zoo.Didnt really know what to expect but we've got to say at £1.50 each it was one of the best zoo's either of us have been too!Have to say though if the Health & Safety Inspectors who work over in Englad came to this zoo, it would be closed down - none of that 10meter gap you get at Blackpool zoo, you could quite easily fill your desire to put your head inside a hippo's mouth, well that's if you want too.Shame that the American girl from yesterday wasnt here.
We strolled round the zoo, which is set in a rainforest environment and fed giraffes and birds before making our way to see the highlight of the day, the panda's!Wow, it was unbelievable to see 2 of them so close. They are female and male and like any panda in the world they have to be kept seperate, apart from 3 days a year where they breed - any longer together and they fight.Apparently scientists have proved that it takes only 3 days for the female to realise that the male is ALWAYS wrong...
Having only covered half the zoo, but with it being late we agreed to come again tomorrow. On walking to the exit, we came across a 6 month old lion cub lying in the path - speaking of the strong influence of health and safety, there is apparently nothing wrong with allowing a big playful lion cub to be stroked and let roam free, uncaged and unleashed around the zoo.It wasnt even too much of a problem when it went for a young toddler stood next to it!
