First on the list today was to look for our own transport. We've already spoke about this with other travellers and come to the conclusion that we need a station wagon and the travellers car markets are the best places to get good deals.
The Sydney car market is just round the corner from our hostel and located on an old underground car park. There was about 10 cars and vans on the market all with various prices and conditions. Some travellers can be stuck here for weeks trying to sell their vehicle.
We had a look at them all and none really took our fancy so were ready to leave when a '96 blue 4 litre ford falcon turned up! It was at a nice price of $2300 and being sold by hopefully what we call a 'trustworthy' English couple! We took it for a test drive and got to see what the motor could do. Not knowing much about cars we had a 5 minute talk, shrugged some shoulders, offered $2000 and got the deal!
In the evening we decided to celebrate and cash in our Marriott 'dinner for 2' voucher. The restaurant was somewhere we dont really eat and although we were a little underdressed the staff were great - none of the snobbery we are all sometimes subject too in posh hotels. The food was fantastic.
On our way back we arranged to meet up with Ai and Andrew, the Australian couple who we met in Borneo. They took us down to the harbour where we got our first glimpse of the harbour and the opera house at night - which was stunning! We had a walk around the harbour before stopping for a drink in one of the bars.
Unfortunately the pleasant surroundings didnt last long and they dropped us off back in the dump of Kings Cross.
It was great to meet up with Ai and Andrew again, and will be seeing them again tomorrow!
