It didn't stop raining once through the night, so again, we had to pack up a soaking wet tent! Once packed though we went back top the light house and this time we saw loads of dolphins in the sea. The rainbow also came back and we got chance to get a photo of it with our now charged camera! Of course th rain soon followed so we got back in the car to head North to Queensland and the Gold Coastwhere we planned to stop, it was only about 80km so it shouldn't take long...
At about the halfway point of the trip, Frank jerked and dropped a gear for no reason, we then pulled up to some traffic lights and Frank wouldn't move, it just made a grinding noise and kind of juddered. We managed to judder it up a little hill and off the road. We just kind of didn't say a word at first, our first breakdown! We don't have our own breakdown cover but fortunatley the previous owners did and we had been given their card and details. So Dave rang and pretended to be a Mr Pinnegar and arranged for the callout. We opened up the Doritos and a dip and prepared ourselves for a long wait. About 10 mins later the mobile mechanic turned up and told us what we had already known. Frank was 'b*****ed'! It needed a tow truck. So again we settled down with our Doritos and dip preparing for another long wait and then 10 minutes later the tow truck turned up! Wow what a quick service - Mr Pinnegar must have paid for the Gold Cover!
So our friendly tow truck driver dropped us and Frank at a garage some where over the Queensland border. Here, we were told that Frank was going to cost about $1000!!! Immediatley, we thought about putting him down but we'd kind of taken a liking to Frank. This wasn't turning into the best day!
We had no option but to leave Frank at the garage for the night and the mechanic dropped us off at a backpackers place in the local town of Tweed. We never got a chance to explore the town as or a change, it was raining.
