At 5.25am we got up and set off to Singapore Airport. Wow! What an airport. Everything was so nice, clean and modern! It even has a swimming pool! The luxury continued for our Qantas 7 hour flight to Australia, which Claire keeps on repeating in the worst Australian accent ever. We watched films, had extra leg room seats and unlimited drinks.
Talk about time flying...we soon landed and after Dave had explained to Claire why we haven't 'fallen off the planet' we collected our backpacks and lost count of how many times we were called 'mate and asked 'how ya goin?' which can either mean, how are you doing? Or, Where are you going? - not too sure yet!
Obviously there hadn't been any problems with our transport up until now so we were due a turn of events...and we wasn't surprised to find that our shuttle bus to the city didnt turn up. So after several phone calls and arguments, walking up and down the terminal we eventually just jumped into a taxi and got there ourselves - $40 down! Luckily our hostel gave us it all back.
We are in one of the hostels in Kings Cross area. The hostel is ok, with clean rooms but some of the people staying here are the sort of people we had avoided for the last 5 months! Lads were wearing baseball caps pointing to the ceiling, girls drunk and screaming at each other...great. The area itself is a little similar to something you would most probably scrape off your shoe. Old men drunk lying in the road, and asleep in McD's, Prostitutes plying their trade, strip joints and kebab shops.
Oh well, had a quiet night in our room chatting with an Irish couple whoI think are also avoiding the outside area!
