Cindy Aserkoff's Travels
Today was an all day bus ride from Saigon to chau doc. Our first stop was at an open air coffee place with excellent coffee and hammocks for resting. Our next stop was where bricks are made which seems to be a main product of this region. Next stop was lunch where we continue to get different food. Always soup but different kinds, this one had beets, potatoes and pork. From lunch we took a short drive to a very different kind of temple. Cai something. It was a mixture of Christianity, Buddhism , and Hinduism. There was a female Buddha and saint victor Hugo. The temple was not like anything we have seen, really pastel colored tiles and paintings. 90%25 of the worshipers are women. It seemed like a very pleasant to pray. We are now in chau doc which is some kind of pilgrimage destination. Tonight we have dinner at a womans home where she prepares dinners for overseas adventure travel groups only. Tonight's meal included the best spring roll I have ever eaten. There was a noodle dish with papaya, shrimp, calamari, maybe octopus or some kind of crab. Then came Vietnamese catfish and marigolds. Really like the marigolds. Tomorrow is goodbye Vietnam , hello Cambodia.
