Today we had a bit of a lie in to fully recover from travelling, and then we set off to explore Kowloon, which is across the harbour from Hong Kong Island. We started off by getting the Star Ferry across the harbour, our boat was called Twinkling Star and it only cost $2.50 to get across, which is about 20p. Once we were there we walked along the water front, which gives really good views of Hong Kong's Central district, then made our way along the Avenue of Stars, which is the HK version of the Hollywood walk of fame. It was pretty good, except we only recognised 3 names along the whole trail! It was boiling hot, so then we went and cooled off inside a shopping mall, before going to an Italian restaurant for lunch. After that we made use of our Octopus cards and went to the Sik Sik Yeun Wong Tai Sin Temple, which is a huge, colourful temple for Buddhism, Confucianism and Taoism (apparently!). It was amazing, and very typically Chinese with dragons and symbols everywhere. There was also an (air conditioned) exhibition about calligraphy that we had a look at, although we didn't understand any of it. After that we took another train to the Sky 100 tower in the heart of Kowloon, which is the tallest building in Hong Kong and the 7th tallest in the world. We took a lift up to 100th floor, which is 393m above sea level, and there were some great views of Kowloon and Hong Kong Island. Our final stop of the day was the Temple Street night market, which had loads of stalls selling everything you could think of. I was persuaded to buy a green jade bracelet, which Joel later assured me was in fact made of glass, but I only paid $100 for it instead of the original $300 I was asked for, so I was feeling pretty good about my barterting skills. By this time we were worn out, so we headed back to our hotel for something to eat and to get ready for our day trip to Macau.
