We've made it! After 2 full days of travelling, (which were long!), we are now in Hong Kong. The flight over was ok, the seats weren't great but we had hundreds of films to choose from to pass the time. When we finally got to HK we were pretty shattered, so we just got on the bus to our hotel and had a rest. Then we went for a wander around the area we are staying in, North Point, found a local market which was nice to look around and then found a chinese restaurant (where the menu was in English) to eat at - 2 main meals and a drink each for $70 which is about £5 - who said Hong Kong was expensive?! We went back to the hotel to sleep off the jet lag, then on our first full day, Sunday, we decided to take the peak tram up to the top of Victoria Peak, the highest point on Hong Kong island. There were great views of the city, and the mountains behind Kowloon. We went up to the top of the Sky Tower as well, the highest viewing platform on HK island After a couple of hours admiring the view we went back down in the tram, and then took a walk through Hong Kong Park, which was really quiet compared to the rest of the city. Then we went back to the hotel to rest for a bit, before going out to eat (we went to the same restaurant), and then going to watch the Symphony of Lights at the harbour, which is where buildings on both sides of the harbour light up in time to music. It's on every night and is free, which is pretty cool :) on our way back to the hotel there was a protest going on, so there were loads of police about and thousands of people marching down the streets shouting. We didn't know what it was about at the time, so we got back to the hotel as quickly as possible in case they closed the metro stations (one further on had already been closed!). According to the BBC it was a pro democracy rally, and police had been using tear gas on protesters, but the police we met seemed really friendly! So far we are loving Hong Kong, but it is very very busy, and the majority of people here seem to be permanently connected to their phones! We saw groups of friends in the park who were all sat staring at their phones, and there is even a notice on the escalators in the metro stations telling people to "please do not only keep eyes on your phone"! We still have a few more days here, and there is plenty left to explore, all in all we are loving travelling so far!
