Up and about early today for our helicopter tour of the Grand Canyon with a company called Heli USA.
Picked up from our hotel and taken to the airport where we had a quick safety demonstration before getting on the helicopter. It was a fairly new chopper so no problems about taking off. They fly for about half an hour out to the start of the Grand Canyon then land and re- fuel before taking off again. You then fly through the Grand Canyon itself - spectacular!! Well worth the money and the sacrifice of an "early" night in Vegas. Nadeen even managed to get the front seat in the chopper next to the Pilot so she has taken some spectacular photos which we will post on the site later on.
All in all the trip was about 3 hours - hotel to hotel -a great way to start the day.
On the return flight they fly over the strip of Vegas which is a great way to see this town.
A great experience
Heading out for our first Vegas buffet experience for lunch today at the appropriately named "Big Belly Buffet" at the Monte Carlo casino - hard to believe that lunch for the two of us is $20.....
Not sure we will need dinner tonight. We are off to see Las Vegas The Show tonight - which is a tribute show to the legends of Vegas - I am really looking forward to seeing the show
This afternoon we went walking - sorry I meant shopping.... - we ended up at the northern shopping outlet where Nadeen bought herself a coat for New York. After a lengthy walk there we caught a taxi back - to give you an idea how far we walked, the cab ride back was $20....
A bit exhausted however we have to go out again tonight... After all it is Vegas and we only have two more sleeps!!!
We saw a local Vegas Tribute show tonight - it is a history of Vegas - with entertainers such as Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jnr, Elvis, Tom Jones, Tina Turner etc as well as the show girls. - lots of colorful costumes and plenty of dancing. The highlight for me was the Elvis impersonator singing "If I could Dream" - one for you Zed!!! - but not as good as you!!!!!
After the show we caught the bus to Fremont St - the original Vegas. WOW!!!! This place is a MUST.... old style casinos but the place is jumping. People walking the streets with entertainment everywhere...bands playing outdoors the famous light show, a flying fox above the street - just a must see if you go to Vegas!!!
Another highlight was the Elvis impersonator playing in the Golden Nugget Casino - which also has the Biggest poker machine I have seen.
After Fremont Street we returned to our hotel at the Bellagio and I hit the tables and managed to have a little win. Overall a great day...as well as a long day!!!!
