Stonehenge is the best known prehistoric stone circle. It's name is actually the generic for the ancient monuments. A henge is a circle and if it is completed with stones, then it is a .... stone henge.

The site is run by English Heritage and is very strictly controlled. You must only walked on the marked paths and you must never ever touch the stones! And it is swarming with tourists. Managing to get a photo of the henge without 1001 tourists is nigh on impossible.

I am so glad I have been to see it. It is magnificent! But do yourself a favour - when you are in the vicinity. Go and see the henge at Avebury. Not only is it 16 times bigger, but you can touch the stones, climb on them, and really "feel" the place.
