25th Feb 2008. Stayed in Krabi for the evening before heading off to Ko Lanta: A debatable hour and a half boat ride later and we pulled into a very nice looking Island. We bartered with a local 'taxi' driver and after getting him down to 100B he lead us to what appeared to be a motorbike with a rather large deck chair strapped on the side. Questioning it's ability we soon hoped on, 2 rucksacks each in tow and cruised around for a hotel. The taxi was now lowered.
Checked into our worst accomadtion to date (we upgraded on day 2), the only consolation to the 100c heat inside was Matt's pink, kitty, bedspread. After some Nintendo Wii action in the day we watched an awesome sunset in the still warm water of Ko Lanta. Very, very nice beach. Quick bite to eat and some Thai techno at the Opium bar, we watched the coming together of 60 year old ravers and lady boys from different nationalities. It was an early night!
Up early for a productive day. The Island is massive and there is only one way to get around so sorry to the mothers but we rented out Mo Peds! (We did wear helmets though). Matt drove with Luke on the back to keep in budget. A few of the off roading incidents were touch and go, with Luke being caught a little by suprised when Matt popped a wheelie. However Luke simple put his feet down, stood up and the bike disappeared. It wasn't a fast pace bit of action.
Saw some amazing, deserted beaches with crystal clear water. Went to an old school Thai village and basically toured the Island. Cracking meal that night at Don's for Chris's birthday. The celebrations were put on hold for Phi Phi!!
28th February 2008. Off to Phi Phi. Having chilled out for a couple of days in Lanta, we decided to head for some more action packed nights in Phi Phi. Took our taxi from the port (a man with a wheel barrow and a dodgey leg) to the hotel. Phi Phi although looked really busy also looked really nice from the start. Big Birthday night for the opener. Many a bucket was sank in the Reggae bar whilst watching members of the public (boys and girls) smack each other around as well as Thai style WWE (fake wrestling). Moved onto Hippies, where Luke and Chris decided to call it a night. Some steady off roading soon followed. Please note there is no short cuts between the Hippies bar and the Garden Room hotel despite what Chris insists.
The next few days were a mixture of lovely hot soon and monsson rain! Decided to be productive and booked ourselves onto a trip around the two Phi Phi Islands. It was a full dayer, with snorkelling with Sharks, even Matt spotted one this time!!, swimming in coves, and hitting beaches. We hit the moneky beach where Matt bumped into the Rocky Balboa of the Monkey world, who sensed his lack of Rabies jab and slapped him about Willy Nilly. Run Matt run! The cliff jumping promised by the advertising bored was more like climbing a ladder up the side of a cliff, advancing up a tree onto a questionable branch and dropping in to the water below. Different but a good laugh. Finished off the trip with visiting the beach from the film The Beach then cruising out to sea to watch another amazing sunset!
The nights were all pretty action packed apart from one election night where alcohol was banned. The reggae bar was fun, if not predictable with the Tiger Bar serving up some quality music (for Luke and Chris) and some naughty frozen Sambucas. We also managed a free bucket from them, although Chris pouring the Samsung and Luke 'borrowing' a bottle of red bull and a can of coke may have pushed the definition of free. Matt learnt spilt shots are replaceable and taught us how to serenade the ladies to Mr Brightside - scary. Hippies was always a laugh if not one hell of trek home, which Luke and Chris soon overcame. A Raleigh triumph was borrowed with Luke 'Lance' Purchase pedalling and Chris on the back. Winner.
Phi was really nice and action packed. The walk up to the viewpoint first thing in the morning, with a slight hangover was testing but had a brilliant time!!
4th March 2008. Back to Krabi for our final night in Thailand. Luke and Chris can reccommend a 6 piece bucket, 3 fish fingers, 3 hot chicken drums, mashed potatoe, fries with Pepsi from the Kolenal (KFC) followed by some Dunking Dohnuts - Traditional!!!! Did have one final Thai curry for luck though.
Thailand has been amazing. We've had an action packed, fun filled 5 and a half weeks. It's been more and above what we expected and are rather sad to be leaving. If we were coming home there would be big tears but roll on Kuala Lumpur! Electric
