Greetings from the Dandenongs!
This weekend we went to the Dandenong Ranges to take a ride on the most famous steam railway in Australia...Puffing Billy!
After catching a train from Melbourne, we started our journey at Belgrave station where we got on board Puffing Billy! The definite highlight of this train is that you are allowed to dangle your legs over the side of the carriage whilst hanging on for dear life onto the railings...something which would definitely have been stopped if it were down to health and safety guidelines in the UK!
We kept thinking how much the kids would have loved dangling from the train..and especially how much Dad would have loved it!
Running through forests, fern gullies and farmlands of the Dandenong Ranges we caught the train all the way to lakeside or (Emerald Lake). Here we had a good old cornish pasty and went for a nice walk around the lake.
The whole journey took up most of the afternoon, by which point we had definitely had enough sun...plus the tiny fragments of flying coal from the train were getting hard to remove from sticky sun-cream covered legs and faces...!
A fantastic day out..so much fun! Yet another place we would love to visit again..
Speak to you all soon!
