The next morning we got up, had the yummy breakfast and hired a private at to drive the 150km (or something like that) journey to Hoi An. It takes a long time to travel that distance here with the bad roads and zillions of motorbikes! We stopped at some fishing villages along the way, cool to see how they catch different seafood (they use rubber tyres from bicycles for catching muscles) and cute looking villages. We also stopped at an awesome place called elephant springs. It's basically a river with lots of swimming holes, the Vietnamese have built lots of little shelters along the river with grass roofs and mats to sit on in the shade so you can swim, order food and drinks as swim some more with your own little area to sit. So many of these along the river u can just choose which ever water hole takes your fancy, they all had crystal clear water! We didn't have much time there unfortunately (would have loved a whole day!) so we just swam in a couple if different places. One place we were in while we were swimming a big group of Vietnamese school kids came along and were jumping off rocks into the water, of course Chris had to do it!!! Highly recommended for anyone- it's between hue and Danang. We then stopped at Hai Van Pass where there were awesome views of the mountains going into the see and the windy roads we had been driving on to see these breathtaking views. There were American bunkers at the top of this, remains from the war.lots of bullet holes in them.
The next stop was marble mountain, much better than I thought it was! Was a steep mountain u climb steps to get to (or you can pay for the fancy tourist lift) up the top there are some impressive pagodas, shrines and the most impressive, various caves with different alcoves and areas with houses and beautiful Buddha sculptures carved into the rock. You couldn't even tell there was a cave there sometimes and you walk in, and there was a massive area with a huge sculpture, just beautiful. We were quite rushed though, a driver only gave us 45 mins, would have been nice to have a bit longer and have a look around more. 20 minutes on and we were in the beautiful city of Hoi An.
