A 6am pick up by our 3rd and final guide Will and straight to the camel farm for an optional ride and breakfast. Then we began our long drive to Kata Tjuta (The Olgas) which are huge rocks in the middle of the red centre, nearby to Uluru. We did a 6km walk which was difficult because of the heat and it was teep in parts. Next was a well needed toilet stop after we had drank so much water! We then made the 30minute drive to Uluru to watch the sunset with some champers. We also had a great view of the Olgas which were just as stunning as the sun disappeared. The viewing bay was jam packed with tourists! At night we slept in the tents because it was freezing cold!
Day 8 we were woke at 4:20 to drive to Uluru for sunrise. The colours change as the sun rose higher and higher nd it was a fantastic sight. After this we walked around the base, all 9km whilst some other members climbed. The aboriginals believe the site to be sacred and prefer you not to climb so we respected their beliefs. plus it was very steep and I couldn't have done it anyway! The surface of Uluru is very bumpy with lots of holes, from far away it appears smooth. After a stop in the Aboriginal Art Centre (way to expensive for our budget!) we made our way to Kings Canyon camp site ready for the walk in the morning.
Our third and final day we were upo at 4 and on our way to Kings Canyon by 5am. The first part was so difficult, a very steep climb and even this early it was very hot. Once we made the top it was more or less one level so it was easy after that. The views were fantastic as we walked 6km in a circle and back to the bus. After lucnh we stopped for a swim then began our long journey back to Alice Springs. Then it was another night in Bojangles, toasting our amazing 9day journey!
On the 16th we began a 3day bus journey from Alice to Cairns. We stopped in a few places along the way but nothing exciting about to write about! Apoligies all for the delay with the blogs, I will try to keep on top of them from now on!
