Today we started with a walking tour of the main sights of Georgetown, Penang. We also walked along the sea front and around Cornwallis Fort. It was here that Brit Captain Light first arrived on the Island and it became a base for The East India Trading Company. Not much remains indside that is original, just the walls, gunpowder room and a chapel. There are lots of canons all around the tops of the wall including Seri Rambai which dates back to 1603 and is the most important.
We took a rickshaw to a shopping mall to escape the blistering heat only to find the shops were pretty poor so we went to the cinema instead.
At night we walked through Little India which is the loudest and most colourful part of the city which we saw. We went to Kaliammans restaurant for a tasty Indian dinner (still haven't found one as good as Peppers or Bilas at home!!). Retired back to our hotel, banana Guest House which was pretty basic but ok for a couple of nights. I have heard that some people at home think we are staying in lush hotels every night and not backpacking properly! Note to you guys - we are not taking pics of the dodgy places hence our excitement and their apperance on the site when we have a good one!!
