We were woken at 9am by the hotel manger confirming our 8hour tour of the city. We strated at Haji Ali's mosque which is on a small island just off the beach. The water is filthy, shoreline was awash with litter and small children followed us, begging for money. We walked along the road to Matialami temple but didnt go in as we didnt want to leave our walking shoes!
Watch out London Aquarium! Mumbai's answer is magnificent! er not really!! We paid about 40pence to enter - there were about a dozen tanks with a handful of fish. I suppose their claim to fame in the world of fish is a 48ft whale skelton which was found in 1994 although it was piled up on the floor near the exit so didnt make much of an impact!!
We drove past beautiful great buildings from British rule but the sad thing is that they are opposite numerous slums and shanty towns.
Much to Bradleys delight we passed about 500 games of cricket, some in all their whites with all equipment, others with piles of stones for stumps.
The gateway Of India was bigger than we expected, in fact it was huge! We got hasseled for pics, money and giant balloons! Why would anyone want a giant balloon?!!
We then went to several shops including a stunning jewelers, trust Chelsea to pick a ring worth 700quid! And if your wondering no we didnt buy it! We noticed lots of Westerners in these shops, all being dropped off by their tour guide. It seemed we were the only ones not falling for these scams - thanks lonely planet!
At Juhu beach we went into Mocha coffee and conversations - loved the name! It reminded us of Egypt with its floor cushioins and hookah pipes. It seemed all the hip young Indians meet and hang out there.
On the advice of LP we went to the Marriot hotel for dinner - OMG it was stunning! We listened to a man playing the piano whilst we tucked into some great food!
