Hello everybody :) Thank you for all your lovely messages. It's so good to hear what you're all up to. Glad you're all okay!! I'm going to try and skype over the next couple of days because we're staying with Nina so it's much easier to get on the internet.
So yeah, yesterday...it was a little bit mental. As we'd gone to bed after our night out at 6am and watching the sunrise, we couldnt get up too early but we were up at 9.30 and getting ready for Australia day. We went to the beach and met Nina and Gareth and their friends. They were taking part in the Australia Day thong challenge - no, not underwear. Thongs are flip flops over here. Basically, everyone pays $30 for a giant inflatable thong and then goes out into the sea and joins into a massive line. The world record is 1300 people and yesterday they did 1195 which was pretty incredible to watch! The beach was heaving.
After that we went over to a place called twin waters, which is like a peninsular where you have the river on one side and the beach on the other. We went onto the river side which was beautiful and had a picnic with some of Nina's friends. They had a gorgeous 4 month old baby and a lovely dog. We had a really nice day :) At about 5ish we went back over to the hostel and said goodbye to Gareth and Nina who went back to Brisbane.
We made some dinner and played a couple of sneaky drinking games with some people from the hostel before hitting the town again. We had a pretty good night and went back to the hostel at about 4am.
Not surprisingly, we were a little bit sleepy today - in fact we were completely useless this morning, we just laughed at everything, we couldn't take anything seriously. We caught the 9.30 greyhound to Brisbane. When we got off the bus we took a walk down to the river, it was absolutely boiling so we found a shelter right in front of the river and basically just chilled for 3 hours, falling asleep and writing our travel diaries - which has kind of taken a backseat recently because we've been so busy.
Nina then picked us up from the bus station and took us back to her flat. It is gorgeous and it's amazing to have a few home comforts - like a washing machine. She then took us to the lagoon near where she lives and we had a BBQ just the three of us because Gareth has gone away with work for a couple of days - it was really lovely though. Really enjoying being with her, so nice to see people from home!!
Now we're just chilling, watching TV and enjoying chilling out, think it might be an early one tonight after our crazy couple of days.
Hope everyone's okay, stay warm - heard it's pretty chilly. Not to make you all jealous but it was 33 degrees today and I definitely have the onset of a tan :P Lots of love, Chloe x
