This morning we woke up with our first experience of camping in the wet on this trip. We got up at 6am and put down the tent in the poring rain. It wasn't too bad as the rain wasn't too cold so we just got on with it. Once that was done we packed the trailer, ditched breakfast and got on the road.
We had booked white water rafting for 2pm and had a long drive to get there, the decision to go through the national park for the scenic route made the trip even longer, which is why we were up at 6! Unfortunately the view point we were all waiting for wasn't so great because of the weather. We got up early for a view of the inside of a cloud.
We continued onwards to the rafting centre and after a bit of a rush we arrived at 1:53pm.
First impressions were not so great. They said we couldn't go bear foot, and that the water was freezing so should get a wet suit. Coincidentally water boots and wet suits are available for hire at a charge! We decided to leave both behind. The group had the safety briefing and then we headed to the river in the still poring rain.
We rafted grade 1-3 but I think everyone agreed the rapids were a bit tame. After a lot of paddling and few thrills we came to the bottom of the rapids all in tact, just wet.
It was nice to do because it was better than sitting in the van, and the scenery was cool. We also got to the three state of confusion. This is the point in the river where we were in 3 states, Virginia, West Virginia and Maryland! So more states to tick off the list!
After we left the river we had food while we dried off and then completed the last 2 hours of the trip to Washington!
We set up our tent once again in the rain before rushing to the camp centre to enjoy the luxury of the hot tub! We stayed in the water until 9pm before going back to eat food and enjoy a beer before bed!
